One person died and extensive damage was caused by the heavy storms that hit parts of north-western Greece (Corfu Island & Epirus) on Saturday.In Corfu a 55-year old tourist died when his car was swept away by the rushing waters in the Perivoli area on the road towards Santa Barbara, in the south.
Firefighters and police rushed to the scene and managed to free his wife & children. The man was transferred to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The town of Igoumenitsa, on mainland Greece, was seriously affected as roads, businesses and homes were flooded. A bridge situated near the village of Lakka, southeast of Igoumenitsa was heavily damaged from the rushing waters.
