The strong tremors were felt across the island and Athens following the quake which took place at a depth of around just 10km or six miles!

There is a potential tsunami warning in place for the island, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The epicenter of the quake was 141km (87 miles) south of Crete’s capital Iraklion.
A strong aftershock occurred 10 minutes later around 102km from the island.
The aftershock had a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 and was followed by a second aftershock with a magnitude of 4.1. Many residents in the capital reportedly went out onto their balconies as the quake shook the city for several seconds.
