A powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit on Saturday afternoon the sea area south of Crete Island, in Greece.

The tremor occurred at 15:51 p.m. (local time). According to the Athens Geodynamics Institute, the epicenter was located 127.4 km south of Crete.
Local sites in Crete say that the tremor caused panic on the island many residents fled from their homes. However, there are no reports of damage so far.
